JOHOR BARU: Johor will play an important role in Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMY2020), a national mission that will boost Malaysia’s position as a tourism destination.

State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the mission, which was introduced by the Federal Government, would help Johor remain competitive in the tourism industry.

He said in line with this, the state government, through the district tourism committees in all districts statewide, had been active in introducing various initiatives.

“The efforts are in line with the Johor Strategic Growth Plan that is focused on the development of tourism cluster strength at the high-potential districts,” he said during a press conference after launching the Johor Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM) fair 2018 held at Sutera Mall.

“Meanwhile, Johor Tourism has already started planning the introduction of promotion efforts and updating the local tourism products in welcoming the VMY2020 campaign.

“Following to this, I would like to urge all movement in the state’s tourism industry to be prepared in their planning and their interesting packages that will help Johor achieve this mission,” he said.

Meanwhile, earlier in his speech before launching the fair, Tee congratulated Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) Johor chapter for successfully organising the event and assembling the tourism industry players.

“As mentioned by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the tourism sector is important since it is one of the main sources of economy for Johor,” he said.
