ISKANDAR PUTERI: Desaru Coast is set to become an international tourist destination for Johor as many global brands are establishing their presence.

State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the developments include Anantara Hotel, Hard Rock Cafe Hotel, Westin Desaru Coast Resort, Aman Resort, the Els Club Desaru Coast and Desaru Coast Adventure Water Park.

“Having such brands in Desaru Coast will benefit the area as well as Johor in terms of domestic and foreign tourist arrivals,” he said in reply to Datuk Syed Sis Syed A. Rahman (BN-Tanjung Surat) during the state assembly sitting.

The first phase will see 1,700 jobs being created in Desaru Coast and overall, about 4,000 employment opportunities would be offered by 2021, he added.

The South-East Johor Development Authority (Kejora) would be investing RM20mil in creating a tourism belt between Desaru Coast and Tanjung Balau.

The projects include the Tanjung Balau Adventure Theme Park, motoring sports track, recreational mini park, Tanjung Balau Tourism Complex, construction of a geological monument park and transforming the area into a seafood destination.

“This in turn will help create between 1,000 and 2,000 job opportunities there,” he said.

The state government, through Tourism Johor and Biotechnology and Biodiversity Council, had developed Caravan Park as another tourism attraction in the area.

Tee said all this would make Desaru Coast an ideal place to visit.

“Industry players will be encouraged to come up with tourism packages so that visitors will spend at least three days and two nights in Desaru Coast,” he said.
